During the past 8 months or so, the date for the official launch of OddSox Creative has been gently pushed out towards the horizon. My priority in the short term was always to serve new clients coming through the door, and I’ve been really fortunate enough to have been kept very busy.
However, being a branding and content guy without his own content and brand get’s a little tricky. I’m sure many of you can of you can relate…there just comes a time where you simply need to put it all out there. So here we are.
Why the name OddSox Creative?
The idea behind the name OddSox comes from when I was the kid (errrr still am) and I’d look down from time to time and notice that my socks weren’t matched (errrrr still do). Back then, I’d chalk it up to an absent mind. Today, I opt for a slightly more flattering explanation. I’ve settled on the idea that it’s the symptom of an overactive mind, not an absent one.
I’m always trying my level best to be genuinely and deeply engaged in the world around me which means sometimes this means I overlook the trivial, like matching my socks. Riveting explanation right? It’s edge of your seat stuff? I know ; )
Why am I doing this?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve engaged (read tortured) my friends and family in discussions, debates, and outright brouhahas about design related stuff. When I say design related stuff, I guess I’m using it in the meta sense of the word. Design as it extends to brands, online experiences, buildings, copy, graphics, products, songs….fashion…films etc.
What if they did the packaging like this? I think if they used little take-out boxes it would be really cool. Do you think that logo works? Did they shoot that whole scene as a single shot? How? I love how they’ve merchandised that…wouldn’t it be cool if they made ice cream sandwiches like this….and on and on…and on.
There’s just something about working through the way things are conceived, put together and delivered that has always fired me up. As those who know me will admit, it’s kind of like a nervous tic for me. I can’t help it. For the most part, this tic has served me well over the years. I like the to think it’s the very thing that continues to shape my abilities as a marketer, communicator, producer, creative director and problem solver.
So what now?
Well my trip down this entrepreneurial rabbit hole is well underway, and I’m really loving it. The rush of creating and delivering is the best. I feel really fortunate and grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work on such great projects with such great collaborators (Renata and Sven!!!) and really supportive clients. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me….and where I take it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Let’s build something great together!
